back from vacation

Just got back from a little over a week in South Carolina. A week at the beach gave me ample time to explore the g10-marine. Here’s a shot of my wife on our last day of vacation. This seems to really capture how she must feel after having her picture taken all week. She’s actually a great model. Always willing to sit and pose or do the same action over and over and over. More to come after I sort through it all.

The New Sentence

Finished up shooting principle photography on Deirtra Thompson’s latest short film, “The New Sentence.” It was such a fun film to shoot for many reason’s. Visually the film takes place in “black” spaces, with just a few set elements to put us into the scene. This was both challenging and a bit of a relief. It was much less to light, but things that we did have to light were so important to the scene, so more time was spent on each element. Above is a portrait of Deedee I took on the first day of shooting and some of the sets that we shot. Deedee was such a pleasure to work with. She has such a unique way of looking at filmmaking that is a breath of fresh air from the common narrative that we are all so familiar with. We’ll shoot some pick-ups next week and some models that will be composited in shortly after.

mugshots

I took the opportunity to test out the new 5d mark II with a portrait session of the timeless bolex. I picked this baby (bolex) up on ebay many years ago and have only used it to shoot one film. There’s something about holding that old mechanically driven, steel body camera that an electronic image making device will never have. That being said the images that come out of the 5d mark II, both still and video, are stunning.

breakfast in WV

Took a little road trip with Caleb. Out through West Virginia where we camped, then on to Louisville KY for a couple days and down to Nashville. This is where we ate breakfast in West Virginia the morning after camping. According to the locals the best breakfast joint in town is Jerry’s Sporting goods. That’s right, amongst all the camouflage and taxidermy there’s a griddle.

Urban Jungle [elephant]

The second image in this series. I hope to complete 2 more by the end of this year, and 6 total for the series.

Urban Jungle [giraffe]

This image was a hit at the rancho grande opening on Friday night. It sold 5 minutes into the show. This image is the first in a series I began a couple months ago when Pete first asked me to hang a show at the ranch. So far I’ve completed this one and the elephant(posting here next week.) The giraffe was extremely time consuming weighing in at 629.9 mb with 69 total layers. ouch. click the image for a more detailed look.

El Ranch Grande, Opens Tonight

Here’s the final of the dentist shot from back here. This is one of the new images debuting at the Ranch Grande show tonight, 6pm. This past month has been a whirlwind of shooting, post work, framing, and finally yesterday and this morning, hanging the show. This is my first solo show and I couldn’t be more excited. It’s so great to see this stuff out of my monitor and up on the walls. Even more importantly, having the show and the deadline got these images out of my head and onto paper. Sometimes you need the deadlines to make things happen. Click image for larger look.
